Press Release - February 2016

The Long Melford Swan has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The Suffolk pub is one of just six pubs across the country to compete for the title of Independent Casual Dining Pub of the Year in the Casual Dining Restaurant & Pub Awards. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on Wednesday 24 February.

The Long Melford Swan is owned by leading pub retailer and brewer Greene King, but responsibility for the business lies with family Andrew Macmillan, daughter Lorna Pissarro and son’s Oliver and Iain Macmillan. Since taking over the Long Melford Swan in 2011, the family has earned a reputation for its quality menu, most recently earning two AA Rosette Awards for culinary excellence.

Lorna commented: “We have worked hard to improve the restaurant over the past five years, including a huge extension to our kitchen and major refurbishment to the building. As a result we can deliver a top menu and high level of service we are very proud of. It is great to have that recognised.

“We are up against some really tough competition for this award, but we are excited to have just reached the final and will have all our fingers crossed for the big night.”

Clive Chesser, managing director for Greene King Pub Partners, said: “The Macmillan family have achieved a great deal in such a short space of time, and it is fantastic to see them receive national recognition for what is now one of Suffolk’s finest pubs. It is thoroughly deserved and we are all backing them for a win in the final.”

This is the first year of the Casual Dining Restaurant & Pub Awards, which aim to recognise the very best UK pubs and restaurants to enjoy an informal meal in.

The family also run the Hadleigh Ram and the Lavenham Greyhound. More information about the Long Melford Swan, including the menu, can be found
